Solar panel installation FAQs

How long will it take to install?
Usually 1 to 2 days

Can I sell back to the grid?
A system installed by us is eligible for export payments. After the installation contact your energy provider for an application form.

Where will cables be run?
Cables can be run into the loft space through the roof but we usually run cables on the outside in a smart 20mm diameter conduit in either white or black to suit the property.

What can the system run?
This very much depends on daylight vs load conditions but as an example on an overcast day a 4kW system should produce 350 to 750 watts which is double the amount required to run fridge freezers and things on standby. On a bright day the system should produce 3,000 to 4000 watts which is enough for an electric oven or a tumble dryer.

I have an east or west roof, will solar work?
Yes. Although south is the best for solar, a roof facing due east or due west will still produce 86% of that of a south facing roof and if you do have an east and west roof the good news is you have double the roof space to use! Unfortunately, we do not install on north roofs.

Can I connect a car charger?
We supply smart EV chargers that work with the solar panels in the same way as battery storage so you can make the most of your generation by putting it directly into your car. The chargers can be set to solar only, 50/50 or full speed charge from grid.

Do the panels need cleaning?
Every 1 to 3 years depending on site conditions. Surrounding trees may leave traces of pollen so this may require annual cleaning whereas some solar panels can go for 5 years or more without a clean. A window cleaner can carry out this work.

Are there any warranties?
Yes, the panels all come with a minimum 20 years against degradation to 80% efficiency, ours come with 25 years to 85%. Inverters and batteries usually come with 10 years or 6,000 cycles which works out to be a lifespan of around 15 years average use.

Will my solar panels work in a power cut?
Unfortunately, PV systems must disconnect from the grid in the event of a power cut. If power cuts are common in your area then we can install a small emergency board to run your lights and small power items from your battery.

Will I need Scaffolding?
Scaffolding will be necessary for most roofs, it will be up for roughly 1 week.
